sabrina's latest album should have been called something else...

Blog Sabrina Carpenter

"Man's best friend" is such a gimmicky, misleading title for an actually good pop album. in my opinion, the album cover rollout was such a step back for straight girls. i hate the half-assed doggy play thing going on but only because she's not even wearing a leash or furry ears or anything!!! it just feels so sanitized and not extreme enough to be satire. Instead it just plays right into their hands!! (the collective male gaze) Another thing is just the lack of color on the album cover. It's so neutral and dull to me... Wish there was cute , colorful, retro vibes instead. Also in what way was she a man's best friend throughout this album? There were no dog themes in any of the songs.

HOWEVER!!! There are a lot of good songs on this album and Sabrina is just fun :D I personally feel that Manchild was not supposed to be part of this album at all, the vibe is just so short 'n' sweet and there was only a YEAR separating the albums, just leave it in that era!!! >:(

Alas.. I think the album title is complete mismarketing.. The visuals for Tears and the concept for that song felt so fresh & groovy and I really wish Sabrina went with that kind of direction for the album cover and title. Sabrina's hair looked so good and I loved the vibe of the music video, however I did feel like the lipsyncing between her and Coleman Domingo in the beginning of the song felt odd and misplaced. Just my opinion <3

Anyway, here are some alternate ideas for the album title:

  • Tears (accompanied with a photo of sabrina posing with rhinestone teardrop rhinestones going down her nude fishnetted leg or something LOL)
  • When Did You Get Hot? (this album title's cover would be sabrina peeking at some guy over her sunglasses while walking with who we assume to be her current boy toy. Kinda like this meme)

Fave Songs off the album:

  • When Did You Get Hot?
  • Sugar Talking
  • House Tour
  • Tears

Least Faves: Manchild!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hate that freaking song...

Lolo rates Man's Best Friend 4/5 stars ★★★★☆
